March First Friday Presents: Abstract Arts by Barbara Anne Thomas
Barbara Anne Thomas is a gestural artist whose evolving compositions are manipulated through the addition and subtraction of marks, new textures, and color. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both studio art and psychology in 2017.
This past year, she worked for No Boundaries International Art Colony on Bald Head Island as an intern, where she painted alongside local and international artists and helped design and hang the concluding art show at the Wilma W. Daniels Gallery.
She says of her art:
I explore time, movement, and memory through the process and the application of the materials, and continuous experimentation of mark-making and new media is central to my practice.
Barbara Anne’s artwork will be available to view and purchase the entire month of March. The First Friday event will be March 1st from 6pm-9pm. See more of her work on her website.
First Friday, presented by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, showcases the vibrant art and creative community in downtown Raleigh on the first Friday of every month from 6-9 pm. The free public event features a variety of local art galleries and studios, museums and exhibitors that stay open late, put on special events and often offer refreshments. Retailers and restaurants participate by showcasing art, music or offering a First Friday special.
